The Great Camp Out

Have you met my husband?
Because he is awesome. Not only is he ridiculously good looking, but  he works so hard for us, and loves me and the boys completely unconditionally. But one of the qualities I love most about him is the way that he fathers our boys. I've often told my friends that you don't really know how much you love your husband until you see him as a dad. And he there isn't a day that goes by when he doesn't amaze me by being the best role model for them.

Like this weekend, when he decided to take Cullen camping in the backyard.
***
Setting up the tent.
 Cullen anxiously awaiting his job.
 Working together.
Bennett and Frankie sharing snacks. Typical (and gross).
Cullen was SO excited. He was sure this was the coolest thing he has ever done.
Bennett tried to understand the concept of camping, and sort of got it.
Mommy! You never do anything this amazing with us! Daddy Rules!

Cullen felt the need to tell his little neighbor friend, Home Improvement Style, about his camping expedition.
 The boys practiced sleeping.
Do we need to explain all the reasons why I love this picture? I think not.
Bennett got to stay up a little late, at least late enough to play with a flashlight. This is his I'm tired but pretending this is worth it face.
After B went down, we surprised C was a little fire (shhh don't tell housing!)  and smores.

It was a special few hours as the 3 of us sat around the fire chatting. Even at 3, Cullen is an insightful and interesting little dude.
We let C decide his own bedtime and by 9 he announced that he was feeling sleepy, but needed Daddy to come in the tent so he wouldn't be 'so afraid.'
So normal bedtime routines ensued outside and within minutes two boys and one dog were sound asleep.
And they made it all the way to the morning.

Oh man, heart-stopping sweetness!

Kev, you rock and just solidified the highly coveted Father of the Year award.

(And I bet dad would agree that it was the coolest thing HE'S ever done too!)!

And am I the only one who thinks it looks like Bennett is planking in the sleeping practice picture?

This is such a special memory! I just adore it and so agree with you on loving my husband after he became dad to our daughter. Didn't realize I could love him more but every time I see him with our daughter I melt.

You have the cutest little boys ever!

"you don't really know how much you love your husband until you see him as a dad" I couldn't agree more!

My husband is gone a lot so when he is home he makes it a point to have a daddy/daughter date even if it's just to the grocery store and I know how much she loves it.

I bet Cullen will treasure this memory for a very long time.

Love your photos as always!!! So much FUN! We don't have a backyard (yet), but Erik plans on doing an annual "boys" (although maybe he'll take Sadie too) camping trip with Max (and some other guys).

I think he'll start that when Max is about 3. So much fun! My camping involves a hotel - hah.

Precious. It's hard work but so rewarding and always worth the effort. I love the 'pretend sleeping pic' they're actually not that far off :)

I love this!! Just tonight I heard my husband tell my little boy that he was so proud of him for climbing to the top of the haystack by himself. It was so sweet to overhear that....I got kind of teary.

Love the wonderful men who take care of us!!
